Hui Fest Marché is a free event that focuses on highlighting the makers & creators in our community! Unlike Hui Fest which focuses on large group performances, the entertainment portion of Marché will include more musical performances. In addition, to the musical performances, we will also host a Tamure Marathon in which all dancers are welcome to participate for FREE! There will be prizes given out to the dancers who can last the longest in their respective categories.

This is a wonderful opportunity to dance alongside those who share our love and passion for ‘Ori Tahiti.

13+

Dancers will be following a leader who will guide them through the basic steps. As the marathon progresses the steps will get more intricate and challenging as the time passes. Dancers may leave the floor at any time. If dancers are still going strong at the 75 min mark we will begin our fa’arapu “burn-out” phase. Meaning all remaining dancers will fa’arapu at full speed until the last dancer is left on stage.  This category will not exceed 90 mins. The last dancer on the floor will be the Tamure Marathon Champion and will receive a prize.

What is the Marché?

Marché is named after the main marketplace in Tahiti called Marché Papeete. There you will find everything from fresh produce, delicious food, local craftsmen, local florists, souvenir stores, raw materials only found there, and more!

The 2nd annual Hui Fest Marché supports Polynesian dance schools, small businesses, craftsmen, and women by providing a space that emulates Tahiti’s Marché. In the past we have had a mixture of island food vendors like fried shrimp rice plates, Poke taro chip nachos, juices, and shaved ice - arts & crafts from leis, jewelry, retail apparel, tahitian drums and weaved baskets, and more!

How do I become a vendor?

For more information please submit a quick vendor application at the link above! Once submitted information will be sent.

Who will be at this festival?

This is a FREE family-friendly event! You can expect people of all ages and ethnicities- shopping, eating, and enjoying the day. Many attendees will be from dance schools across the Bay Area who practice the Polynesian art of dance and music from the islands of Tahiti and Hawaii.

What type of entertainment will there be?

This year’s entertainment will include an island music DJ and a series of musical guests, a Tamure Marathon, ‘Ori Tahiti dance workshops, an introduction to a Tahitian drumming class, and a Tahitian history lecture. Tamure Marathon is free to enter but you need to register. All registered dancers for the marathon include free admittance to workshops, classes, and lectures.

What is a Tamure Marathon?

A Tamure marathon is an ‘Ori Tahiti (Tahitian dance) contest focusing on stamina. The last female and male standing in each category will be declared the Tamure Marathon Champion!

Dancers will dance to a symphony of live Tahitian drum beats facilitated by dance school directors and leaders in our ‘Ori Tahiti community.
